Do you commute to TWU? Tell us about your drive!

The Texas Department of Transportation is conducting an important study of residents’ travel patterns in and around IH35E between Denton and Dallas and we need your help! The important information you provide will update current transportation models in order to improve future travel conditions in the Dallas area. Lane expansion and toll roads are being considered, please take a few moments to complete this brief survey to voice your opinion.

Being involved in this study is easy. You simply:

1. Think about one trip you have recently made. This is a one-way trip you have made in the past month that either used or could have used any portion of IH35E between Dallas and Denton.Examples of one-way trips include your drive home from work, or your drive from home to the grocery store.

2. Tell us about your trip. Go to
http://surveycafe.com/ih08176/passwordtw.asp and tell us about the trip that you made.

If you have questions please email
IH35E@surveycafe.com and reference the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is offering a seminar on SPSS and Excel to researchers (faculty and graduate students) on Thursday, March 13, 2008, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm on the Denton campus. This seminar will be especially useful to those with limited experience in research methods, SPSS, and Excel. The 1.5 hour seminar will provide helpful tips on database management, SPSS use with Excel, research design and methods.

“Tricks of the trade” will be shared that can save time and headaches for individuals relatively inexperienced in research. Simple techniques can prevent many later problems in areas, such as research design, file importing, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation.

Graduate students may attend this seminar. Space is limited so please email Rene Paulson
(rpaulson@twu.edu), by Tuesday, March 11, if you plan to attend. We look forward to seeing you there!

Do you suffer from lost files? Or infected ones? STEP is here to help!

STEP is our student technology training program, a peer-to-peer group specifically designed to help students with whatever technology needs they may have.

**Valentine's Day special: STEP will be giving away one 512MB flash drive at each session this week to a lucky TWU student in honor of Valentine's. This device may be all you need to rekindle the spark in your technical relationships!**

Tuesday, Feb. 12: File Management - Foster that loving bond with your computer. Don't get frustrated when it files away your documents, communicate with it. Learn how to listen and see just where it's keeping your information safe and secure. Never lose a file again with this presentation on a fundamental computer skill.

Wednesday, Feb. 13: Computer Virus Protection - Although it may seem your computer is driving you crazy on purpose, it probably isn't able to control itself. Everyone hates being sick, even your computer, and that unexplained, mysterious behavior might be a sign of a pretty serious infection, not a crack in your relationship. With the tools in this presentation, you can nurse your computer, and your relationship, back to health.

Our presentations are at 12:30 in the Student Union, finished in plenty of time for class at 1. We are in room 207 this week. Bring your lunch and learn about technology. As always, our handouts are available on our website at https://portal.twu.edu/step if you are unable to attend.

Educational Refresher Courses

Do you need to relearn, or maybe learn for the first time, some common computer applications like Microsoft Word or Excel? Or, maybe you need some pointers about study skills or good grammar. The Continuing Education unit of The Office of Lifelong Learning is now offering online, refresher courses. They are non-credit so they do not count towards a TWU academic degree, but they are a great way to brush on up old and new skills.
